![]() ![]() When you did the free upgrade to Windows 10, there was a digital entitlement with that upgrade for your device. Either one should work to reinstall Windows 10. You should be able to use either the Dell provided recovery media or the Media Creation Tool media for Windows 10 to reinstall Windows 10 on your device. Also since it came with Win 8.1 but was upgraded to 10, will Win 10 activate or will I need to install 8.1 then upgrade to 10? If that's the case, how would that work as it's not free anymore? If I pop an SSD into there, can I use the Dell Windows 10 recovery media to do a clean windows install? I'm guessing the "Recover from drive option" won't be there or won't work as there will be no recovery partition on a blank SSD. If I have a Dell computer that originally came with Windows 8.1 but was upgraded to Windows 10 during the free period and the hard drive dies, the computer is not bootable. ![]()
